Lost In Jersey (Joisey)

Place HolderPlace Holder
7:00 AM and everything is going as scheduled (for about the last time today).

We departed Hagerstown headed Northeast on I-81 and entered Pennsylvania after traveling about 15 miles. The ride on I-81 was very nice as we could see a silhouette of the Allegheny Mountains in the distance. Later we passed through the Pocono Mountains which were very picturesque.

Then everything started going awry.
At Stroudsburg, our plan was to cross into New Jersey and ride some county roads for a 47 mile scenic trip along the Delaware River. However, we could not find the road we were to take, so, we relied on the GPS to guide us. Big mistake. We ended up headed for the opposite side of the river than we had intended and we had to do some back tracking to get back on course. It took us three hours to go the 47 miles. It was however a very scenic ride.
We encountered more delay in New York when it stated raining pretty heavily and we stopped (under an overpass) to put on our rain gear (however, on the bright side, we did get to see a very vivid rainbow). Also, at Newburgh, NY, we stopped at OC Choppers and viewed the custom bikes on display. It was a neat place to visit after seeing it many times on television. [No we didn't get to see Paul, Sr. or Paul, Jr. or Mikey].

Next we took another scenic route through Connecticut which turned out to be nerve racking at the start because of heavy traffic and stop lights and we lost more time on our schedule.
It was a rough day, but we finally arrived at Northampton, MA after 14 hours in the saddle and riding through six states (MD, PA, NJ, NY, CT, MA).

  1. Hi Dave!
I am enjoying your blog. Looks like this is going to be a great trip, minus the little flaws. I am glad you were able to stop and see the OC Choppers. Wes will be anxious to hear about that. I hope that Rona and Janet have a safe flight today. Have a good day and happy riding.
